Concrete Enviropan®
Railroad Tank Car Loading Rack

Those responsible for overseeing railroad tank car transloading facilities that handle oil, fuels, chemicals and other liquid substances are acutely aware of the importance of keeping these areas free of spills which could ultimately cause contamination of ground water and/or find its way into our rivers and streams which is in violation of Section 311(j)(i)(c) of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act (Clean Water Act). Facilities subject to the rule must now prepare and implement a plan to prevent any discharge of oil and a variety of other substances into or upon navigable waters of the United States. The plan is called Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) found at Title 40 Code of Federal Regulations, Part 112 (40CFR 112). Click here to view SPCC Regulations. Spill Collection Pans

Not only can accidental spills in railroad transloading facilities cause significant harm to the environment, they can pose long-term health hazards, damage to the railroad track system and are very costly to clean up. Even the most careful operators of railroad facilities who handle oil, fuels and chemicals cannot totally eliminate spills which occur from equipment malfunction and residues which spill from hoses, couplings and valves. The Enviropan® railroad track spill collection system manufactured by Century Group is considered the best available technology offering protection from spills by collecting substances dripped into the track area and transferring it to a proper waste treatment system. With over 40 years of experience in precast concrete manufacturing and the railroad construction industry, Century Group is committed to assisting industry and railroads in solving its railroad environmental problems.

As a supplier, Century Group Inc. is proactive in the railroad industry by ensuring that all sales and technical field representatives have been through the Class I Railroad's e-rail safe program, http://www.e-railsafe.com/, the Roadway Worker On-Track Safety program overseen by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and the Transportation Worker Identification Credential Program (TWIC) implemented by Transportation Security Agency (TSA) and the U. S. Coast Guard. Safety and security at jobsites is the highest priority at Century Group Inc.

Features & Benefits:
EXPERIENCE
Century Group's highly skilled technical staff has over three decades of railroad construction and maintenance experience. With this knowledge Century Group has developed railroad spill containment systems that overcome many of the short comings prevalent with poured in place concrete containment and other types of pan systems.

When designing our precast concrete railroad spill collection pans, Century Group's main goals were environmental excellence, economical and efficient installation. With these goals in mind, Century Group has developed a railroad spill collection system that provides unparallel secondary containment for railroad tank car transloading and locomotive fueling operations that is economical to install with minimal interruption to your railroad operations.

VERSATILE
The precast concrete Enviropan® standard pan width is 12` (6' from center line of track). Although Century Group can manufacture its concrete spill collection pans in widths less than 12 foot, it is important to realize that the average railroad tank car and/or locomotive is approximately 10' to 10'6 wide. When designing spill collection pan widths Century Group takes into consideration the chance of spillages during tank car transloading operations, especially when loading and/or unloading of liquids occur from the top of the railroad tank car. Depending upon the viscosity of materials spilled from the top of a railroad tank car, when traveling down the sides of the tank it may drip straight down which would have fluids hitting the ground 5' to 6' from center line of track. Spilled fluids can also splash and/or run down railcar ladders, platforms, hoses and other equipment. Click here for Cross Section of Concrete Enviropan®. Sufficient width of your railroad spill containment system is also important when designing a railcar wash facility. Over the years it has been Century Group's experience that a 12' wide spill collection pan system provides adequate field side containment for most railroad tank car transloading, locomotive fueling and railcar wash operations. Also, the width of a spill containment pan is critical when considering locomotive fueling. Accidental overfills of side fuel tanks require a minimum of 12' widths to insure that all fuel is contained. The Enviropan® standard pan sections are offered in 10` lengths, and fits in railroad tracks with 115# rail sand larger. The Enviropan® is designed to fit in curved track up to 12 degrees, and can be coated to resist some of the harshest materials found in chemical refineries.

EFFICIENT
The Enviropan® has a tapered stainless steel flashing which fits snug up under the head of the rail to force materials dripped on rails into the pans. The flashing can be custom cut in the field to fit around rail joints. The Enviropan® is constructed with a built-in taper in all pans which helps eliminate the build-up and puddling of spilled materials. The built-in taper forces all materials to flow parallel with the rail to the transverse cross drains. The Enviropan® has built-in recessed lifting eyes for ease in handling and installation and can be installed without interruption or delay to rail traffic. The Enviropan® does not require any drilling or attachment to the rail or cross-ties unlike other types of railroad spill containment pans.

DURABLE
The Enviropan® is built of high-strength reinforced concrete which does not flex, warp, or degrade under ultra-violet light unlike (FRP) fiberglass drip pans. Its rigid structure along with a built-in taper prevents puddling of materials characteristic in other types of systems. The concrete Enviropan® system can be coated with special coatings to protect from caustics, acids and other highly reactive substances.
